Cognitive Rehabilitation is an area of specialization that focuses on restoring the functions of the brain that have been identified in the neuropsychological assessment as being impaired or inefficient.
Cognitive rehabilitation consists of a program that has three goals.
1) Passive mode interventions – pro-brain lifestyle
a. Diet (leafy greens, antioxidants, hydration, omega fatty
acids)
b. Sleep hygiene (routine, hydrating, avoiding laying in bed,
SleepCycle ®
c. Exercise (social, most days, 30 minutes)
d. Sunlight (open blinds, mirrors, walking, sunroom)
e. Hobbies (safe, pleasant)
f. Managing health ( going to appointments)
g. Social engagement (friends, family, support group)
h. Meditation (BrainTap ®)
i. Emotional Health (talk therapy, therapy group)
j. Sobriety
2) Supportive mode interventions – compensatory tools and strategies
a. Evaluate Cognition
b. Identify tools and strategies tailored to difficulties
c. Keep a forgetting log (list of situations you struggle with)
d. Practice the strategies and tools
e. Deploy strategies and tools in those situations
f. Hire help
3) Active mode interventions – daily brain exercises SHIP
a. Socialize with people
b. Have cognition assessed
c. Identify areas of difficulty (memory, attention,
decision-making)
d. Participate in Lumosity.com ® exercises tailored to the
difficulty
